Brandon Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot

Brandon Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot eligibility and evaluation criteria is under development. Brandon eligibility requirements, evaluation criteria, information package and application form will be available online in December 2019 at economicdevelopmentbrandon.com/BrandonRNIP.


Brandon, MB is one of 11 Canadian communities selected to participate in the 3 year Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot (RNIP). For Brandon, the pilot will run from November 1st, 2019 to October 31st, 2022. The pilot creates a new permanent resident immigration stream available only to the 11 participating communities. This permanent resident pilot is a targeted labour force recruitment strategy with a strong emphasis on retention of the newcomers that relocate to Brandon through this pilot.


The RNIP provides Brandon with the opportunity to work directly with employers and Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) to create a permanent residency opportunity only available through the pilot, in order to attract skilled workers to the area. Applicants to the pilot must:


Brandon is a welcoming city of approximately 50,000 people located in the southwest corner of Manitoba
, one hour from the USA and Saskatchewan borders. As the second largest city in Manitoba, Brandon provides services and amenities not only to its 50,000 residents but also to another 130,000 people that live outside the city. The full service city is home to two colleges, a university, a regional hospital, government offices and numerous businesses and services of all types and sizes. The community has a low crime rate, affordable housing, clean water, fresh air, free quality public education and health systems, and abundant recreational and cultural opportunities.


In the past decade, Brandon has successfully welcomed over 7,000 newcomers from all over the world. The city is fortunate to have Westman Immigrant Services, a community based charitable organization that assists immigrants and new Canadians by providing three core services; English as an Additional Language (EAL) classes, Settlement Services and Brandon Community Language Centre Interpreter services.
